Psychology for the people

Empower your inner polis.

Depth psychology, queer imagination, and the writing life, taught in living rooms, on Zoom, and on the page.

Author/Psychotherapist/Educator
Douglas Sadownick

A clinician and a writer, working where the two meet.

For four decades I have listened to stories of struggle, eros, and transformation, and I have written them down.

I founded the nation's first LGBT Specialization in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University and co-founded the Colors LGBTQ Youth Counseling Center. My work draws on Freud and Jung, gay liberation, feminism, recovery, and the long tradition of meaning-making that runs from the Bronx of my childhood to the consulting room.

This is the home for my books, my classes, and the publishing house I am building. If you came looking for therapy, you will find that work at drdouglassadownick.com.

Creativity is the work

The inner life wants a form.

These paintings came out of dreams and active imagination. They are one way the inner work takes shape, and there are others: a sentence you finally write, a session, a class, an honest look at the country we are trying to repair. The more you face what is inside, the freer you become, as a maker, as a partner, and as a citizen with the clarity to choose better. Drawing a dream is one doorway. Below are more.
